Ying And Yang

I am very much into gardening and 3 years ago I took a barren area called a front garden and turned it into an idea based on a Japanese garden involving leaf colour and all-year-round vibrancy. I used Acers, conifers, raised beds and heathers as the main backdrop to the garden. A small waterfall has been added and alpines placed in the shale centre to add colour and interest. On the polished Larch sleepers, I’ve used for raised beds, I had cut silhouette carvings of a Dragonfly, Mount Fuji, A geisha girl and a bonsai tree as well as a Ying and Yang symbol and the house name written in Chinese characters (see House Of Kings)

As time goes on I’m replacing the silhouette carvings for more updated versions and adding new in a couple of places. This is the one to replace the Ying and Yang symbol. It is made out of a very thin layer of beech and cut to shape on the bandsaw. The Ying and the Yang are separated by a thin sliver of brass and the dark side is coloured with ebony stain.

The garden is filling out nicely and further carvings are planned for the future.
