The Sensei

I was asked to carve this piece by a follower of Aikido. He wanted to place it in his dojo as a mark of respect. After researching Morihei Ueshiba, I was fascinated with his tale of how he came to create this fighting style. The piece was carved out of Italian Lime, a whiter, and a closer grained wood than our English Lime. The piece took eight weeks to complete, and I was highly delighted with the finished article. It was finished with beeswax which brought out a high lustre on the carving. The perspective owner forfeited the right to the piece when he refused to pay the agreed price. His loss, my gain. Thanks are given to Roy Mitchell for the use of this drawing of Morihei Ueshiba.
