The Peregrine.
As a 16/17-year-old, I did a pen and ink drawing of a Peregrine Falcon. I had always been interested in raptors, in their sleek looks, with menacing eyes and beaks. I spent many an hour on the moors near Reeth watching them. This drawing had been traced onto a piece of Parana pine with a wish to carve it since I was about 20, but I knew I hadn’t the talent at that time todo it justice. In 2014 on the setting up of Cleveland Carving Club, I completed my long-awaited desire. Skill is one thing and confidence totake on the task is another, without both nothing can be achieved well. The falcon was carved ev/entually out of a piece of lime and finished with danish oil.
