Sparky

Sparky came about from an idea to do some whittling and I saw this gearstick head which tickled me. It reminded me of my older brother who has always loved doing up cars. After a few weeks of carving, I then looked at it and didn’t really know how to display it.

After a particularly annoying and heated event when I had blown my own gasket, the idea came to me. Sparky’s cylinder head is made out of a piece of Sapele Mahogany and spray painted in chrome paint. There is a space in the centre where the fibre optics and a mini smoke machine can be stored. When on display the flashing fibre optic lights and smoke give it some sense of theatre.

Sparky himself is painted in enamel paints with a perspex rod up his rear to give him that flying happy feeling. Most people who see him ask quizzically, ‘where do you get your ideas from’? I shrug my shoulders and smile????
