Peek-a-Booooooo
You may have gathered from the range of items I carve that they cover from the weird to the wonderful. In fact, when someone states that my taste in carving is strange. I say Thank You!! and wear it as a badge of honour.
Here is a case in point. This piece dropped into my Pinterest feed and I saw it, but immediately lost it. It took days of serious searching to find it and it fitted the bill perfectly.
I would class myself as a fusion carver. A person who, when possible melds different art forms together to make carving whole. I had been looking for a major pyrography piece to carve and with a little extra added, some enamel painting. Who could ask for more?
The skull in the box has been washed in an ash lime stain to lighten it slightly and the black background has been stippled with the pyrography pen to add texture and darken the backdrop. The eye was fun to do as it took several attempts to build the effect. This was so successful that when it was displayed at a local library, Peek-a-Booooo had to be moved from the cabinet as it caused concern to a receptionist nearby. I’m not wanting to frighten people, but it means the carving was noticed.
The carving was carved in Oak and no other finish has been added. What else can you do to perfection?
