Old Gilbert
The Welcoming worm
This is Gilbert… He was originally unnamed or called the worm, but very much loved part of any letter, notelet or card my wife and I would receive from a very good friend of ours. She was a close buddy of my wife’s at school as well and we had some great times and shared holidays together, sharing our growing up and family lives. The drawing is a very poor computer-generated copy of her emblem.
When she got together with her future Hubby from our friendship group, it was only natural that I would bring Gilbert to life. I’m not sure why he was painted red, but it’s stuck and when they bought their first house, Gilbert welcomed each and every guest into a warm and loving home. The Christmas parties were always memorable and the pork sandwiches the highlight of the season. He has suffered some knock over time and has been slightly airbrushed for this picture to hide the ravages of time and busy family life, but he’s looking good for his age!
Why is he now named Gilbert?? Well that a secret that will be known only to those few who have met him.
When the family grew and just before there eldest left for University I had the idea that the family should be recognised and the generation of the new plaque was deemed required.
Do I need to create a garden to cater for all these worms? It may take sometime, but with the evolution of their loving family’s, I believe I have enough wood to keep me going …
