Neptune
I’d seen the picture on Pinterest and thought it to be a really carvable image. It took 3 attempts on 3 increasingly larger sized blanks to get the right proportions to make Neptune work. Apart from occasional pieces falling off during carving. Getting the head, hair and left arm in the right proportions was difficult.
The trident is made out of brass and the carving is done on a close-grained piece of lime in order to get the detail around the head. The crown is coated in gold leaf for effect. I stained the background with ink stains to gain the vibrancy of colour and finished it with sanding sealer in order not to yellow the colours.
