Grumble Bee
Grumble Bee was a tattoo pin I saw on Pinterest and thought it would make a lovely carving incorporating a number of disciplines. The wood used is lime for the main body with walnut added as the dark wood for the tail. The chance to do some intarsia added to the enjoyment of the carving. Zebrawood was used for the wings and a spalted beech ring was cut and tinted with jacobean oak stain to add contrast. The honeycomb at the rear is delicately cut from a thin piece of lime and placed on a sheet of hardboard painted yellow. The antennae are made out of a brass rod which has been cut, shaped and polished. The added effect of the dripping honey was made out of lime and drizzled in clear glue. It was finished in a clear acrylic spray to give it a nice shine
May I thank the original artist for there lovely caricature which I believe works well as a carving.
