Celtic Raven

I saw this again on Pinterest and was scrabbling about for something to take to the carving club. I’m not sure if you would describe it as Celtic or Viking, but it fitted the bill at the time.

It is carved on a scrap piece of Piranha pine and the raven was blackened with boot polish as an experiment. Something I may use again in the future. The background has been whitened with an ash lime stain wash and sanded to create the difference between highs and low points. Finally, it was finished in sanding sealer as it does yellow the white background as much as oil, wax or varnished finishes.
