A Leaf

After having a silly accident where myself and half my left index finger parted company, I was out of carving for a while. On returning, I went back to basics and tried to carve a leaf. I have loved Acers and it was only natural that a maple leaf was my choice. The idea was to do a multi-layered effect of leaf on top of a leaf, like in autumn, but I got bored and wanted to get on with something else. Having completed this, I was going to try and colour the leaves in autumn colours, but I tried a tester and the colours I had were too vivid, so its back to basics.

The piece is carved out of lime and finished with a mahogany stain for the background. the final finish is a danish oil with a red birch surround.
